Akhil Sharma has been published in The Best American Short Stories 1996 and 1998 and The O. Henry Award Winners 1996 and 1998. His screenplays have been optioned by Universal Studios, and one of his plays was developed by HBO as part of a festival of new writers. Sharma was a Stegner Fellow in Fiction at Stanford University. He is a recent graduate of Harvard Law School and works in New York as an investment banker. Sharma was born in India and immigrated when he was eight. He has worked for extended periods in India for a legal aid foundation for prostitutes in Calcutta and for an adult literacy program in the villages of Rajasthan.
