Akin Babatunde is an accomplished actor, director, writer and lecturer. His theatrical career spans the regional off-Broadway to international stages of the world, film and television. Babatunde's work has been commissioned by notable ensembles throughout the country and includes Shakespeare: Midnight Echoes, the one-man show Of Ebony Embers: Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance and Before the Second Set: A Visit With Satchmo, co-written with his brother, celebrated actor Obba Babatunde. Blind Lemon: Prince of Country Blues (co-created with Alan Govenar, the WaterTower Theatre at the Addison Theatre Centre) garnered the 2001 Leon Rabin Award for best new play or musical. Babatunde received the 2010 AUDELCO Award for best direction of a musical for the production Blind Lemon Blues at the York Theatre, Manhattan. He is a lecturer at the University of Texas at Dallas, a faculty member at Mountain View Community College, Dallas, and a theater specialist consultant for Dallas Independent School District.
