Chris Weikel's Penny Penniworth: A Story of Great Good Fortune was produced off-off-Broadway by the Emerging Artists Theatre (EAT). He is a founding member of the off-off-Broadway theatre company The Other Side of Silence (TOSOS), which presented his Pig Tale: An Urban Faerie Story in New York as well as at the Absolut Gay Theatre Festival Dublin. TOSOS also produced the original production of Penny Penniworth at the New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC). Weikel was commissioned by the American Stage Theatre Company to write an adaptation of Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales for the company's 2000 season. He is a judge-at-large for the New York Innovative Theatre Awards and a regular contributor to Drunken! Careening! Writers! at KGB Bar in New York City. Weikel received an MFA in playwriting from Hunter College in New York City. He was a 2008-2009 fellow of The Dramatists Guild, the 2007 recipient of the Robert Chesley Foundation's emerging gay playwright award, the 2008 recipient of the Irv Zarkower Playwriting Award and a 2011 recipient of the Rita and Burton Goldberg Playwriting Award.
