Claire Chafee studied acting and directing in New York and London, spent a year in the MFA program at Brown, and took a yearÕs position as associate artist at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco. Her plays, Why We Have a Body (four San Francisco Dramalogue Awards and the Bay Area CriticÕs Circle Award for original script) and Even Among These Rock were both premiered at that theatre. Why We Have a Body was subsequently produced by The WomenÕs Project in New York City. It received NewsdayÕs George Oppenheimer Award, presented annually for the most impressive debut of an American playwright. Chafee is working on a musical commissioned by Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
