Daniel Fenton is an award-winning writer and playwright. He is the recipient of two playwriting fellowships and several awards for his writing. Belonging was a semifinalist in the IUPUI Bonderman National Playwriting Symposium in May 1999 and was subsequently workshopped at the Provincetown Playhouse in New York's Greenwich Village by New York University. Aunt Molly's Hungry Ragged Blues dramatizes the story of folk singer and miner activist Aunt Molly Jackson based on her own oral histories and recordings along with extensive interviews with her contemporaries, including Pete Seeger, her niece Pauline Inman, her sister-in-law Hazel Garland and many others. The play premiered in Indianapolis and toured throughout the coal regions of southeastern Kentucky and the Virginias, featuring Suzi Moore Fenton as Aunt Molly. The play was presented at Appalshop in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and at sites near Aunt Molly's former home in Bell and Harlan counties. Fenton's comedic play Brooding and Dangerous was showcased in New York at The Theatre Studio in 1998 and was staged at New York's Harold Clurman Theatre as part of the annual Off-Off-Broadway Original Short Play Festival. The play was staged at Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke, Virginia, in the fall of 1999. Mae of the Movies was showcased at the annual Indiana Works Showcase of New Plays and was reworked as a new play, Hearts and Bones.
