Doug Haverty's award-winning plays and musicals have been produced across the United States and overseas. His comedy-drama Could I Have This Dance? was named Best New Play (produced outside of New York City) of 1991-1992 by the American Theatre Critics Association and is included in the Otis Gurnsey Best Plays of '91-'92 anthology. Dance premiered in Los Angeles at the Colony Theatre, then opened off-off-Broadway at the Village Theatre Company and played in Melbourne, Australia, at the Anthenaeum 2. His plays Aftershocks and Death Defying Acts premiered in New York at the Long Island Stage. His musical, Inside Out (co-written with Adryan Russ), played off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre and the original cast recording was released worldwide on DRG Records. Haverty's works have been presented at the Charlotte Repertory, the Laguna Playhouse, the Phoenix Theatre, Sarasota's Florida Studio Theatre and Atlanta's Theatre-on-the-Square, just to name a few. His most popular play, In My Mind's Eye, premiered in Los Angeles at the Group Repertory Theatre where many new plays were workshopped. Other works include Come Baby, Cradle and All; Legend of the Crystal Waters (a musical - which was a winner at the deaf Drama Festival); Hello, This Is the Bottom Drawer, Haverty's first play, which was discovered by the legendary Audrey Wood; and Flavia and the Dream Maker, published by Dramatic Publishing. Haverty studied playwriting with Lonny Chapman, Oliver Hailey, Charles Clere and Gardner McKay. He studied the art of writing musicals with Stephen Schwartz and Lehman Engel.
