Joe Zarrow

Joe Zarrow is a Chicago-based playwright and actor. Productions include his site-specific gentrification farce The Pigeons (Walkabout Theatre Company) and his short plays Everythingaoke (LiveWire's VisionFest 5), The Staircase (Source Festival, Washington, D.C.) and Roll (commissioned by Tympanic Theatre for the Today We Escape festival). Zarrow has performed his original solo shows Dead White Men in Bed, Gaydar: A Scientific Inquiry and Hold Me, Drill Me, Kiss Me in Chicago; New York City; Providence, N.Y.; Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Washington, D.C. Other Chicago performances have included roles in Bulrusher (Congo Square Theatre Company), Arcadia (New Leaf Theatre), Buddy Cop 2 (Pavement Group), State & Madison: The Grid (Theatre Seven of Chicago), Walk Two Moons (Adventure Stage Chicago), 200 Funny Things (Collaboraction Theatre Company) and A Midsummer Night's Dream (Sankofa Theatre Company). Zarrow grew up in northern Virginia and received his bachelor's degree in English from Brown University and his master's degree in teaching from New York University. He taught high-school and middle-school English for seven years, including a four-year stint with Chicago Public Schools. Zarrow is also a proud graduate of The School at Steppenwolf. He and his wife, Mary, live in Chicago and are expecting their first child.
