Monica Michell combines her love of theatre with her commitment to education in the writing of plays for young adult and family audiences. Drawn especially to the power of socially responsible theatre, her plays address issues of bullying, abandonment and moral ambiguity. She has received multiple grants to develop her theatre outreach programs in Central Texas and her plays have won recognition from the Texas Educational Theatre Association's PlayFest, an annual competition for new plays. She is the head of Teacher Education and Certification in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University-San Marcos where she has taught since 1989. She holds an undergraduate degree in theatre from the University of California-Irvine and received her M.F.A. in Creative Drama and Theatre for Youth from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of The Dramatists Guild and draws inspiration from the Blanco River flowing just outside her writing studio in Wimberley, Texas.
