Robert Schenkkan received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.F.A. in Theatre Arts from Cornell University. He has worked as an actor/writer on Broadway, off-Broadway, in film, in television and at regional theatres across the country. Schenkkan is the author of The Kentucky Cycle, Heaven on Earth, Final Passages and Conversations with the Spanish Lady and Other Plays. His awards and nominations include the L.A. Drama Critics Circle, the PEN Center Award, a John Gassner Award nomination, the Burns Mantle "Best Plays of 1993," an Outer Critics Circle nomination, a Drama Desk nomination, a Tony Award nomination and the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. He is a grant recipient from the Fund for New American Plays, the California Arts Council, the New York Caps Grant, the Arthur Foundation and the Vogelstein Foundation. Schenkkan is a member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York City and an alumnus of New Dramatists.
