Shem Bitterman's work has been produced and developed at theaters across the country including the Mark Taper Forum, the Actor's Theatre of Louisville, South Coast Rep, Geva, Steppenwolf, Sundance, Midwest Playlabs, the WPA Theatre, Padua Playwrights Festival, the Unicorn Theatre and Circus Theatricals in Los Angeles where he is also an associate artist. Plays include Harm's Way (2008 Pen USA Literary Award for Playwriting), man.gov (2006 L.A. Weekly Nominee, Best Play), The Circle (Best Play, SCA Fringe Festival), The Job (1998 Los Angeles Times Critic's Circle Award, Best New Play), Ten Below, Peephole, Night-Side, The Ramp and Beijing Legends. Bitterman has received numerous awards such as the Fund for New American Plays, the CBS/FDG New Plays Award, the Stanley Award, the White Dove Award, Mixed Blood Versus America, the Lee Korf Award, the Davie Award and the National Play Award.
