Synopsis

The place is Camelot just before Arthur becomes king. The old queen would like to retire but she wants her successor to be worthy and good to her people and not, if you please, the very ambitious Earl of Nasty. Merlin the Magician is instructed to determine who shall be the new king. Of course, he brings forth the rock with a sword thrust into it. The person who can pull out the sword will be king. The Earl of Nasty tries and fails, but young Arthur, a page, easily extracts it. Then the Earl of Nasty locks Arthur in a dungeon but…it's just not that easy to fool Merlin!

Customer Reviews

King Arthur's Calamity is well suited for a middle school performance. We use it to teach an Introduction to Theater and Drama to our 7th grade. It has enough parts to keep a group of 22 students engaged so long as about six of them are involved in back-stage work.

Hints, Tips, and Tricks

We have so many hints to make this an amazing comedy performance. The parents love it on performance night. Lots of laughs. In order to keep everyone engaged we have a couple of students that work exclusively on the PROGRAM or Playbill, two for lighting and sound, one for props and wardrobe, one student acts as the stage-manager, everyone has a script! We use NERF swords for the sword-fighting scenes and have some funny choreographed action.
