Synopsis

"Life is the remedy for optimism," states the Honorable Tchang in this enchanting play, and Lute Song, as originally produced in Peking in 1404, has had a continuous stage life right up to the current season! A young scholar reluctantly leaves his bride to seek advancement in Peking. He succeeds but is forbidden to return or communicate with his home. His beautiful wife journeys alone to Peking and a marvelous confrontation scene and climax follow. Authentic Chinese theatre at its best.
