Synopsis
A semicircle of nine chairs is placed toward the rear stage. In the bare space in front of the semicircle is enacted the moving story of Sophie from "across the tracks" and how she is maligned by the members of the high school glee club. They tell of the excitement of deciding what dresses to wear for the special concert, the thrill of the concert itself--which turns to bitterness for Sophie when she is falsely accused of stealing her dress. In an emotional climax, Sophie rises above the others. First prize in the Thespian Society contest.
