Synopsis

Welcome to 6th-period English class. The lights go up and we watch high-school students struggle with an essay they must write entitled "I Am Addicted To..." Suddenly, the play begins to move fluidly though space and time. It travels from the classroom to Jennifer's bedroom, where she stares at her body in front of a mirror, imagining how she would look if she were thinner; to the fraternity where Paula deludes herself into thinking a college student really cares for her; to Jimmy putting his alcoholic mother to bed; to the locker room where Brian, the star of the football team, wrestles with the loss of the big game; and back to the classroom. No Problem is a prevention play which boldly confronts the self-destructive behavior plaguing adolescents today, and it does so on their terms. It doesn't just educate teens about specific disorders; it shows them what destructive behavior looks like in themselves and others. The play is a powerful catalyst for discussion and discovery, as it challenges its audience to question themselves and the choices they make. Ideal for any space or budget and suitable for touring. Classroom exercises are included.

Customer Reviews

This show was AMAZING! It's a heavy piece, but carries such important messages. My students loved digging in and bringing these real life issues to light. It is also a great piece for competition as we did extremely well with it. It is well written and has potential to be performed in many different settings. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Sarah Plamann, Hamilton High School Drama Club, Sussex, Wis.

This was a great show to do this year with all the COVID restrictions. It really let us tell an important story while not having a big, complicated set or a ton of props and allowed for a limited number of actors on stage at any given point in time.

Jessica Schlichtemeier, Conestoga High School, Murray, Neb.

Wonderful stylized show with plenty of flexibility and great character work.

Sean Berry, Pleasant Hill High School, Pleasant Hill, Mo.

The show works really well for high school students;they can really connect. It was a huge hit at the competition and took first place. Keeping the pacing smooth and fast and the use of lights and sounds effects really helped the impact.

Kathi Beiter, Danville High School Forensics, Danville, Pa.

A great show for teen actors! Makes for good competition material!

Natalie Stannard, Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, Iowa

We felt that this was the best one-act play that we had ever performed. It is a great mix of humor and drama. The roles present great opportunities for actors to show a full range of emotion and expression. We received rave reviews from audiences.

Hints, Tips, and Tricks

Can use additional actors for smaller roles rather than only five actors.
