Synopsis

On the wild rocky islands north of Scotland it is told 'round the peat fires that the selkies transform into beautiful lasses on Midsummer's Eve and dance on the beach, celebrating the dual nature of the seal people—land and sea. Selkie chronicles the story of 16-year-old Elin Jean as she discovers a hidden pelt that unlocks a mystery foretold and is set on a path to find "the knowin'" she desperately seeks. This original version was featured at the Bonderman Playwriting for Youth National Symposium and at the Kennedy Center's New Vision New Voices, and won the AATE Distinguished Play Award. Filled with lyrical language, music and mysticism, this coming-of-age story will fascinate audiences of all ages. Perfect for competition!

Hints, Tips, and Tricks

Have plenty of time to work on the dialect. It is an Orkney Scottish dialect and not Highland. That will be key for the show. That will be the hardest part is getting everyone on the same page. Then the rest will flow rather easily.
