Sisters Under the Skin

The scrubwomen in an office building just love to clean up the offices of the "Sandra Salon for Social Success," for with all the lovely gadgets about, they can play at being society ladies. When Tessie, a new scrubwoman, joins their group, they decide to use Tessie as a guinea pig. Doesn't it say right in the book they picked up at Madame Sandra's that with the proper care and training anyone can become a lady? They set to work on Tessie—it's a struggle, for Tessie has about everything wrong with her—but a lady she becomes. In the midst of their carryings-on, in walks Sandra herself. How the ladies put one over on her adds up to the fastest and most hilarious last five minutes of any play we've ever published. The parts are the best ever, as one of the srubwomen tries for a graceful walk (with a book on her head), and another goes through all sorts of contortions to improve the sound of her voice. The scrubwomen strain and groan to become ladies—and then decide it isn't worth the effort. The action is a howl from start to finish.
