Synopsis

The plot, drawn from West African folktales and enhanced by songs based on authentic African rhythms, forms and themes, concerns the trickster-hero Ananse, who spends his time dreaming up ways to get others to do his work and so ends up in some hilarious predicaments. Hugh, menacing Leopard and Lion try to intimidate Ananse, but he outwits them both. The songs may be sung by solo voices or entirely by chorus. Accompaniment may be performed on the piano, but here is a perfect opportunity to capitalize on Carl Orff's musical ideas. Very simple parts for Orff instruments like the xylophone are provided in the book.

Dancing Spider is a lively musical with fun characters and lessons learned. Easy music was performed on Orff instruments by 4th graders. Show was enjoyed by both audience and cast.

This was a superb show. Catchy melodies, quirky choreography, lots of solo voice features.

Frederick Shepard, Tower School, Marblehead, Mass.

The Dancing Spider is a great show for kids. Lots of parts which can double up or not ... Simple sets make this show great to do at different locations.
