Synopsis

The time, the future, after the great light when the old world was lost in one searing moment. The place, the Barrier, where the great letter D stands dividing two groups. The man's group is militant. Its costumes suggest soldiers and it believes the D stands for defense. The woman's group is beautiful. Its pastel gowns suggest peace and parties and they believe the D denotes devotion. Neither group realizes its need of the other but a boy and a girl are attracted to each other. The girl tells the boy of her love of flowers and gives him a little packet of seeds. She tells him, "You have the seeds and someday you will plant them. Remember!" And he replies, "I will remember."

Customer Reviews

... The story is sweet and symbolic, the flow is smooth and interesting, and it allowed for great student involvement.

Vanessa Martin, Prescott High School, Prescott, Ariz.

My sophomores performed this show and said that it reminded them of Romeo and Juliet meets Adam and Eve.

Richard Pope, Waukegan High School, Waukegan, Ill.

This is a simple play but delivers a powerful message. My cast and I have enjoyed bringing these characters and their message of tolerance and hope to our stage.

Hints, Tips, and Tricks

We made the D wall in two parts so they were easier to carry through a door by two people ... Likewise, we used boxes for height rather than risers.
