David Campton has written over a hundred plays and sketches, not to mention radio and TV scripts and short stories. Short pieces that have appeared in the West End are One Over the Eight, On the Brighter Side, Counterpoint and Mixed Doubles. Jonah was commissioned for and first performed in Chelmsford Cathedral. In 1977 the Japan Prize was awarded to his radio script Blue Sea; while Everybody’s Friend, After Midnight – Before Dawn and Mrs. Meadowsweet have all been awarded the British Theatre Association’s Geoffrey Whitworth Cup for best original one-act play. In addition, a handful of his one-act plays— The Cagebirds, Us and Them, The Laboratory, Incident and Little Brother, Little Sister have regularly been performed at festivals.
