A meaningful play that begins with two groups of wanderers looking for a place to settle. They agree to share and mark the line between their territories, then build a small wall. The wall is built higher and then still higher. Suspicion and mistrust grow to the point where the groups must inevitably explode in conflict.
A wonderful senior one-act directing project featured in a night of one-act plays and musicals.
This remains a solid and timeless parable which speaks to us all with an urgency that may have originally led to its creation.
A wonderful ensemble piece.
This play can incorporate many actors. It has few stage directions and thus allows a lot of room for innovative direction and the exploration of different dramatic modes. It is built around the idea that when we put up walls and differentiate between "us" and "them," terrible things can happen.
A timely performance about dualistic thinking, inability to negotiate, work togetherÉtied into current timesÑwar with Iraq, the Muslim/Christian divide, fear of terrorismÑwho's got room at the top attitude.
An interesting script about how suspicion and mistrust can destroy societies. There is a lot of room to be creative with this script.
Never put up a full wall, just a step-down wall so the audience on both sides can see the whole cast at all times. We painted the front sides of about 15 boxes to look like stone. The two groups of cast members dressed all in black or white. Props were imaginary.
